The symbol for Sagittarius is the centaur - the half-man, half-half. Some centaurs were wild and rough, while others overcame their animal nature and became refined and wise. The centaur Chiron taught the Greek heroes their skills and knowledge, including hunting, battle, surgery, philosophy, music and mathematics.
The keyphrase for Sagittarius is "I seek". All Sagittarians strive to rise higher, for some it is social climbing and for others the seeking of knowledge and enlightenment.
Like Gemini, Virgo and Pisces, Sagittarians are (or can be) highly adaptable and fit into situations which might challenge others.
